Shortly before I painted this, a friend and I had been talking about her coming through some hard times that had lasted a really long time. You might be able to relate to this kind of suffering - the kind that makes you almost forget your real self.

But recently, she had experienced a few small things that had jogged her memory. Have you ever felt that tiniest spark of remembering who you used to be and who you realize you still are at your core? It might be fleeting but it gives you a little bit of hope that someday, you can get back there.

Shortly after this conversation, I noticed a little cactus on her kitchen counter. It was a scraggly little thing that looked like it was barely hanging on.

But it had one bright pink bud.

She said that it's been scraggly, with no flowers, for years. She calls it her Charlie Brown cactus! 😄 Apparently it has never thrived. But it didn't die either!

This tough little cactus, with one bright pink bud, seemed like the perfect symbol of my friend who is starting to remember.

So I painted it for her.

If you would love this in your home, or would like to bless a friend with it, prints are now available! You can find it in the Prints tab.
